Kidnapped BBC journalist regains freedom in Cameroon.

A journalist kidnapped by armed men in Bamenda has been released, government authorities and journalists' associations and Unions confirmed on Saturday.

Frederick Taking, who corresponds for the BBC and Equinoxe, was kidnapped by suspected separatist fighters in Cameroon's troubled northwest.

He was released on Thursday evening, authorities said, revealing that he was released hours after his abduction.

The conditions of his release remain unknown.

Meanwhile, locals attributed his abduction to what they described as reporting against the separatist movement in the Anglophone region of Cameroon.

The country's separatist fighters are demanding an independent state known as Ambazonia and the release of their leaders by government forces.
